President Yoweri Museveni did not order residents to stay on Lusanja land after eviction, a witness has told court.
The revelation was made by State House employee Irene Birungi Mugisha while she appeared before Justice Tadeo Asiimwe of the Nakawa High Court.
Birungi told court that on his visit to the contested land on October 16,2018, the President Museveni did not directly issue instructions for the residents to remain on the land but only ordered the office of the Prime Minister to offer support the affected families in terms of shelter and food among other necessities.
The State House employee also told court Museveni also instructed the commission of inquiry into land matters headed by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire to carry out investigations and later provide him with a report.
In a related development, the court summoned the three surveyors who wrote the survey report of the location of the contentious land.
The surveyors included Dennis Asiimwe, Henry Sembajjwe of KCCA, and the third one who represented the evicted people of Lusanja.
The matter in court came up after Kampala businessman Medard Kiconco's petition in which he accused over 147 people of trespassing on his land after the eviction.
The matter was adjourned to Friday August,2 2019 for further hearing when Minister Persis Namuganza is expected to come back.
