Retired U.S. army officer Lieutenant General Michael Thomas Flynn paid a courtesy visit to President Museveni at State House Entebbe on Tuesday during his official visit to Uganda.
Lt Gen Flynn, the former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and former U.S. National Security Advisor, is visiting the country at the invitation of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. His visit is focused on discussions surrounding leadership development and military affairs.
During the meeting, President Museveni and Lt Gen Flynn exchanged views on regional security dynamics and emphasized the importance of strengthening military-to-military relations between Uganda and the United States. Lt Gen Flynn expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended to him by Ugandan authorities.
The engagement at State House was also attended by Gen Muhoozi and Uganda’s Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Museveni wrote that the meeting was to “discuss matters of national importance.”
Prior to the State House meeting, Lt Gen Flynn held a private discussion with Gen Muhoozi and was honored at a dinner hosted in his name at Serena Hotel Kigo. He also addressed senior Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officers at Speke Resort Munyonyo, where he emphasized the principles of leadership.
“Leadership is grounded in character, courage, and strategic vision,” Lt Gen Flynn said during his address.
Gen Muhoozi described the visit as the beginning of a consequential relationship, highlighting its potential significance for future cooperation.
