Bukomansimbi EC Urges Peaceful LC1 Elections as District Begins Preparations
Bukomansimbi District Electoral Commission has called on LC1 candidates and their supporters to maintain peace and follow electoral guidelines ahead of village elections expected to attract nearly 90,000 registered voters.

BUKOMANSIMBI — The Bukomansimbi District Electoral Commission has urged candidates contesting for Local Council I (LC1) chairperson and village committee positions to maintain peace and respect electoral laws ahead of the upcoming polls.

District Returning Officer Betty Komugyereko said all participants must ensure the electoral process is conducted peacefully and transparently.

Komugyereko warned that only registered voters whose names appear on the official voters’ register will be allowed to participate in the elections, regardless of whether they are residents of the village.

“No one will be allowed to vote unless his or her name appears in the official voters’ register. Being a resident of the village alone does not qualify someone to take part in the election,” Komugyereko said.

She said the district has completed preparations for the nomination of candidates seeking LC1 chairperson and village committee positions.

The nomination exercise will begin on Wednesday, July 15, at respective sub-county headquarters across the district.

“We are fully prepared for the nomination exercise. We call upon all aspiring candidates to report to their respective sub-county headquarters with the required documents and to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the process,” she said.

Komugyereko urged candidates and their supporters to avoid violence, intimidation and any form of electoral malpractice that could disrupt the process.

According to the Electoral Commission, a total of 89,658 registered voters from 254 villages in Bukomansimbi District are expected to participate in the election of village chairpersons and executive committee members.

District election officials expressed confidence that the exercise will be peaceful and transparent if all stakeholders adhere to electoral guidelines and respect the law.
