NRM Intensifies Grassroots Drive to Consolidate Support in Butaleja District

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its mobilisation efforts ahead of the upcoming polls, extending its vote-hunting drive from the district and sub-county levels down to the parishes.

Party leaders today embarked on widespread outreach, activating grassroots structures to rally behind NRM flag bearers.

In Butaleja District, NRM leaders spent the entire day traversing more than 10 parishes out of the over 70 that make up the area.

During the engagements, they urged local leaders to uphold the district’s long-standing trend of voting overwhelmingly for NRM candidates on polling day.

NRM spokesperson Rodger Mulindwa emphasised the importance of unity and loyalty within the party ranks, especially as the election period draws closer.

Butaleja stands out as one of the districts where all incumbent leaders were voted out during the NRM primaries. Although the former office bearers have opted to contest as independents in an attempt to reclaim their positions, the party is still appealing to them to step aside for the officially endorsed candidates. Mulindwa noted that the party leadership remains open to considering them for appointments, as has been done for previous district leaders.

Beyond vote mobilisation, NRM leaders are also focusing on strengthening vote protection measures. The push, they say, is designed to ensure that every legitimate vote cast for the party is secured and accounted for.

Uganda’s Ambassador to Australia, Dorothy Hyuha, and Butaleja Woman MP Sarah Logose both echoed the message of unity and vigilance, encouraging grassroots leaders to redouble their efforts during the final stretch of campaign activities.

Butaleja District, comprising 15 sub-counties and 443 villages, has a total of 142,041 registered voters expected to participate in the upcoming elections. District NRM leaders expressed confidence that, come January, the party will secure at least 140,000 votes from the area.

As the polling period approaches, the NRM’s intensified parish-level strategy signals a heightened effort to consolidate support and maintain its dominance in one of its traditionally strong districts.
