The Ugandan Embassy in Berlin, in partnership with Ugandan coffee producers Sera Wild Coffee and Mimea Coffee, has hosted a highly focused coffee cupping event in Hamburg aimed at boosting the visibility and competitiveness of Uganda’s Arabica and Robusta coffees within the German market.
The promotional event brought together Embassy staff led by Ambassador Danny Ssozi, Deputy Ambassador Jessica Namuddu, Tourism Desk Head Milly Nanfuma, representatives from Sera Wild Coffee and Mimea Coffee Uganda, as well as German coffee importers, roasters, traders, and industry experts.
Participants sampled a range of specialty coffees and held in-depth discussions with Ugandan producers about quality improvement, sourcing opportunities, and long-term trade partnerships.
Opening the session, Mr. Alexander Brabandt, a Coffee Analyst at the Port of Hamburg, presented an overview of the Ugandan coffee currently entering Germany.
He outlined the quality metrics used at the port and underscored the need for farmers to maintain high-grade standards to increase Uganda’s export volumes and strengthen its presence in Europe’s competitive coffee market.
The cupping featured coffees from thirteen Ugandan farmers, showcasing the country’s diverse flavour profiles, rising quality benchmarks, and growing potential within the global specialty segment.
Ambassador Ssozi reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to creating strong market linkages, supporting value addition, and elevating Uganda’s visibility in premium international markets. Participants expressed considerable interest in expanding trade engagement and exploring new sourcing partnerships with Ugandan producers.
The Embassy announced plans to continue organising targeted promotional events across Europe to further enhance Uganda’s position in the continent’s coffee industry.
