The Digital Government Africa Summit has emphasized the urgent need for African countries to accelerate their digital transformation journey beyond policy discussions to tangible action.
Speaking at the summit attended by the State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen David Muhoozi, and other dignitaries, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, noted that digital transformation is no longer a matter of choice but a top operational priority for African governments.
During the annual summit held in Lusaka, Dr Baryomunsi stressed that the focus should not only be on automation but on achieving systematic change to improve service delivery and enhance transparency for citizens through digital transformation.
He further highlighted the Digital Government Africa (DGA) Model as a vital platform fostering critical dialogue between ministerial delegations and industrial partners — an approach he said Africa urgently needs to adopt and advance.
Dr. Baryomunsi also urged African nations to strengthen collaboration among themselves and with the private sector to drive sustainable progress in digital innovation and governance.
Meanwhile, Uganda is set to host the 2026 Digital Government Africa Summit, which will build on this year’s theme, “From Strategy to Scale: Accelerating Digital Public Services Across Sectors.”
