The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) is set to officially launch the updated National Information Security Framework (NISF) on 15th July 2026, a major step aimed at strengthening cybersecurity across government institutions and improving the protection of Uganda's digital infrastructure.
The launch, scheduled to take place at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, marks the completion of a comprehensive review of the framework, which has been updated to address emerging cyber threats and align Uganda's information security practices with international standards.
The revised framework was developed under the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project – Government Network (UDAP-GovNet), an initiative being implemented by NITA-U on behalf of the Government of Uganda with funding from the World Bank through the International Development Association (IDA).
According to NITA-U, the updated framework responds to the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape by introducing practical tools to help Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) assess and strengthen their cybersecurity readiness.
The framework also establishes minimum baseline security controls for critical information infrastructure and operational technology, providing government institutions with a standardized approach to managing cyber risks and safeguarding sensitive information.
The launch represents the formal adoption of the updated framework for implementation across government, with officials expected to outline the responsibilities of MDAs in ensuring compliance with the new cybersecurity requirements.
During the event, participants will receive an overview of the revised framework, its implementation toolkit and guidance on how government institutions can enhance their information security posture while supporting Uganda's broader digital transformation agenda.
NITA-U has invited accounting officers and representatives from government institutions to attend the launch, emphasizing that collaboration across the public sector is essential to building a resilient and secure digital ecosystem.
The authority says the updated National Information Security Framework is expected to provide a stronger foundation for protecting government systems, improving cyber resilience and supporting the delivery of secure digital public services as Uganda accelerates its digital development.
