Authorities in Pallisa Town Council have given land lords a six months ultimatum to demolish all the old buildings.
According to the Mayor Yusuf Zomu this resolution was passed on December, 22, 2023 during a council meeting.
The decision was reached at following government plans to tamarck 7.5Km of roads in and around the town council hence they want new buildings to match the good roads.
"Most of the buildings were constructed in 1940, 50e and 60s but we need new ones that arw commensurate to the ongoing developments in our area" Yusuf Zomu said.
Emmanuel Olupot a local leader in Pallisa says though Council's decision demolish old buildings is painful to the landlords but it is the way to go.
"We are advocating for Pallisa Municipality hence development comes with negative effects but we request the people to comply for the better" he said.
He emphasized the need to change the face of Pallisa to a modern town.
These roads have starting changing beautifying our town hence we need modern buildings as well" he said
The construction of 20Kms of roads including 7.5Km for Pallisa and 12.5Km for Kumi is undertaken by Arab Contractors.
According to Engineer Paul Anguria the project deputy resident Engineer UNRA the project is estimated to cost 146Bn
The project includes tarmacking the several roads in the town council, working on drainage channels, and putting solar lights on the roads
