VIDEO: Pilgrimage for health; Ten-year-old walks  to Namugongo for brother's healing

Ten-year-old Patriot Atukwase set off from his home in Mbarara to make a pilgrimage for his older brother's healing.

Exhausted yet excited Atukwase was among the group that arrived from Ankole diocese at the Anglican martyrs’ shrine in Namugongo around 12:00pm Tuesday.

On arrival, the group was received by Rev Jackson Matovu and Ezekiel Luggya, the chairperson and Vice of Namugongo Museum respectively.

According to the shrine caretakers, this group from Ankole Diocese is the first one to arrive comprising of 94 people as more are expected.

The group members had sore feet, fatigued from walking and looked completely knackered, but their arrival at Namugongo was some sort of achievement only they could tell personally, and they made it visible when they burst in song, drumming and praise.

But for 10-year-old Atukwase, he has come to search for healing for his brother.

50-year- old Juliet Tuwebaze grew up with a desire to visit Namugongo. And on Wednesday she embarked on a journey to fulfil her religious desire.

Mary Mutamba Sentaro from Ndija Rwampara spent 8 days on this journey and despite the tiredness and swollen feet she’s happy to be at Namugongo.

At the Catholic shrine, service providers have started arriving and setting up though the challenge of the increasing prices is worrying for them as they may not be able to make the anticipated profits.

This year's celebrations will be led by the Kigezi Diocese for the Anglican shrine.

While the Catholic shrine celebrations will be led by Tororo diocese.
