Let Me Serve My Last Term and Retire- Says Nathan Byanyima After Winning NRM Flag for Bukanga

Bukanga North Constituency member of parliament Nathan Byanyima on Friday was declared the winner for the NRM flagbearer in the 2026-2031 general elections.

Speaking to the press shortly after the declaration, Byanyima who has represented Bukanga for close to 25 years revealed that the 2026-2031 will be his last term in parliament and retire.

He added that he had initially shared with his opponents this idea but they did not listen.

"My message is one, I told them even at the beginning that they were young men, who are able and capable of being members of parliament. But since I was already there and I had srarted on many projects like the roads, water and electricity, I thought I would be upto the job" Byanyima said.

"In fact I wanted them to join me and campaign together so that in five years when I am serving my last term because after five years I want to leave and retire and they take over but they couldn't listen."

The legislator said that his opponents are good people and wants them to instead team up with him and work together for the people for good service.

"They are good people, they can work and I want to call upon them and we team up and work for our area. This election was tough especially during this dry season. Questions were many about water, the bad roads and electricity" Byanyima said.

Nathan byanyima won the Bukanga North county NRM flagbearer with 30302 (69%) against Julius Tumuhimbise who got 5845 (13%) and Jeremiah Kamurari who got 4590 (9%).

He says he still has pending projects and promises to fulfill in the next and his last term in parliament.

"I have pending projects, the water, we are getting from Kagera but not yet in the people's homes, for electricity, we don't have enough money yet, for the roads, I know it is in the pipeline."

"So the campaigns were not easy, I was battling with young men splashing money but I continued with my value, delivering services. I will follow up with all the pending promises and projects from government."
