FDC: "We have enough evidence to pin Kayihura"

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has said it has collected enough evidence to implicate the detained former IGP, Gen Kale Kayihura in court.

The party also wants FDC wants Kayihura to be tried in civil court and not the army general court martial.

Speaking to journalists at party headquarters, party officials said  a judicial commission of inquiry comprised of three high court judges should immediately be constituted to allow party officials, supporters and general public register their complaints against the former police chief.

"The president has personal interest, and yet there is  a national interest in his trial. It’s only a civilian court that can strike that balance," said Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the party spokesperson.

Ssemujju said they have a long list of charges against Kayihura. He said the party is already mobilising its supporters who have ever been tormented during the 13 years reign of Kayihura.

“We know of those he [allegedly] killed, those he assaulted, and those kidnaped and have never been seen," he said.

Kayihura has for the last six days been under UPDF detention at Makindye military barracks  after he was airlifted from his country home in Lyantonde to Kampala to answer various charges which are yet to be specified.

The party says a general inquiry file should also be opened to allow complaints from both within government and from the opposition.

Through a general inquiry file, let anyone either in government or in the opposition prepare to register a case against Kayihura," Ssemujju said.
