Kariisa Gifts Kawempe Clinic Smart TV After Viral NBS Viewing Moment

A simple social media post by a Next Media videographer has resulted in a brand-new smart television for a Kawempe clinic after Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa moved swiftly to reward the facility’s loyalty to NBS Television.

The moment began when NBS videographer James Mutatina noticed patients and staff at AMA Clinic in Kawempe gathered around an ageing television set watching NBS despite poor picture quality.

Touched by their commitment to the station, Mutatina shared the experience on X, praising the viewers for choosing NBS programmes despite the limitations of their television set.

“My leader @kkariisa, I’m in love with this place. Was hurrying home for #NBSAmassengejje, then spotted a small clinic with NBS TV playing it. Couldn’t pass, had to sit and watch first. Naye my leader, Babulamu ka SmartTV koka,” Mutatina posted.

The post caught the attention of Kariisa, who immediately directed his team to identify the location and provide a better viewing experience for the clinic.

“Desire Mugumisa, look for this place. Let’s have a smart TV in that place by 30th June. My brother, Mutatina, thank you for loving NBS TV,” Kariisa responded.

Within days, Next Media’s Senior Manager for Corporate Affairs, Desire Mugumisa, confirmed that the request would be honoured.

The company later delivered and installed a 43-inch smart television at AMA Clinic, replacing the old set that had served as the centre’s window into NBS programming.

Speaking during the handover, Mugumisa said the gesture was a reflection of Next Media’s appreciation for viewers who continue to support the brand.

“When James highlighted the challenge, our CEO immediately saw an opportunity to appreciate people who have continued to choose NBS. Today, we are delivering on that promise with a new television that will give them a better viewing experience as we continue to inform and transform Uganda,” Mugumisa said.

The proprietor of AMA Clinic welcomed the gesture, saying the new television was an unexpected but appreciated gift.

“I am very happy today. I never expected this. We are grateful to Kin Kariisa and Next Media for this wonderful gesture,” he said.

Mutatina said the experience demonstrated the importance of recognising the people behind the success of media brands.

“I walked into the clinic simply because I wanted to watch NBS. When I saw how committed everyone was to following our programmes despite the old television, I felt they deserved something better. I’m grateful that our CEO responded immediately,” he said.

The gesture comes as NBS Television marks 18 years of informing, educating and entertaining Ugandans, with the company highlighting the importance of maintaining strong connections with audiences across communities.

For the viewers at AMA Clinic, what started as an ordinary afternoon watching television became a reminder that even small acts of appreciation can create lasting impact.
