LUWEERO — The Member of Parliament for Katikamu North, Denis Sekabira, has urged youth leaders to embrace hard work and lead by example, saying effective leadership starts with personal responsibility and commitment to improving people’s lives.
Sekabira made the remarks during a meeting with youth leaders at Kasana in Luweero District, where he challenged them to become productive citizens who can inspire development in the communities they represent.
The meeting brought together youth and local leaders from across Luweero as part of an initiative aimed at promoting socio-economic transformation and fighting poverty.
During the engagement, more than 100 hoes were distributed to participants to support agricultural activities. The farming tools were donated by Luweero Town Council Mayor Paulo Mukungu.
Addressing the youth leaders, Sekabira said leaders must demonstrate commitment through action if they are to encourage others to improve their livelihoods.
“As leaders, you must be hardworking and set a good example for the people you lead. When leaders are committed to work, they inspire others and help communities overcome poverty,” Sekabira said.
He pledged to continue working with youth leaders to support programmes aimed at improving household incomes and promoting development in Katikamu North and the wider Luweero District.
Mukungu urged youth leaders to focus on service delivery rather than political rhetoric, warning against making unrealistic promises to young people.
“Leadership is about serving people, not engaging in empty politics. Stop misleading young people with false promises and instead work to improve their lives,” he said.
The mayor pledged continued support for youth empowerment initiatives, saying providing young people with skills and productive tools would enable them to become self-reliant and contribute to community development.
Luweero Town Council Youth Chairperson Dauda Kiyemba said youth leaders were committed to working together to mobilise residents through transparency, community service and development programmes.
The participants welcomed the initiative, praising the organisers for supporting youth empowerment and calling for increased cooperation among young leaders to accelerate development across Luweero District.
