Plascon Hails Masaza Cup as Key Platform for Grassroots Football, Unity as 2026 Edition Kicks Off

Plascon Uganda has hailed the Masaza Cup as a key platform for grassroots talent development and community engagement.

The 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup officially kicked off on Saturday at Mubende National Teachers’ College in Buweekula Ssaza, with defending champions Buweekula held to a goalless draw by Kyaddondo in the opening fixture.

The highly attended match attracted fans, cultural leaders, sponsors, and football stakeholders from across Buganda, marking a vibrant start to the regional football competition.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, officiated the opening match on behalf of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, commending the level of discipline and competitiveness displayed by both teams and supporters.

On the pitch, Kyaddondo dominated the first half while Buweekula grew into the game after the break. Kyaddondo captain Trevor Kalule was named Man of the Match for his composed leadership and defensive display.

As one of the tournament sponsors, Plascon Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Masaza Cup for the fourth consecutive year.

Daniel Kayongo, Head of Marketing at Plascon Uganda, said the tournament continues to play a critical role in shaping football talent and strengthening cultural identity.

“The Masaza Cup remains one of the most powerful platforms for nurturing local football talent, bringing communities together and celebrating the spirit of Buganda,” said Kayongo.

He added that Plascon’s involvement aligns with its broader Twaake initiative, which promotes unity, passion, resilience and community development through sport.

“We are proud to continue standing with the Masaza Cup because it represents the same values we champion through our Twaake initiative: unity, passion, resilience and support for Ugandan sport,” he said.

Kayongo also highlighted Plascon’s sponsorship of Buddu FC, one of the 18 participating teams, as part of the brand’s deeper investment in grassroots football.

“Buddu’s participation continues to give us an opportunity to connect more deeply with fans, players and communities through football,” he noted.

He further thanked fans for turning up in large numbers in Mubende.

“We thank the fans who travelled in large numbers to Mubende. Their passion, colour and discipline continue to make the Masaza Cup one of the most vibrant and culturally significant football competitions in the country,” Kayongo said.
