The winners of the 2024 Stanbic Uganda Cup, Kitara Football Club have returned home from Ethiopia where they had gone for a friendly.
The team touched down at Entebbe International Airport on Monday evening.
Kitara picked up a 2-0 win against Ethiopia'a Mechal Sports Club in a friendly at Addis Ababa Stadium.
The game was part of Kitara’s preparations for the new season .
Club president, Deo Kasozi said the game in Ethiopia was significant move and experience to the team and players.
“We played a big team which had just concluded the season and we won, meaning our players’ fitness is coming back and of course, it’s a good start for us . We are looking ahead to a great performance in the upcoming season,"Kasozi said.
Team coach, Brian Ssenyondo was optimistic of the new season.
“We are looking ahead for the new season. We hit our target last season and for this season, it means we have to maintain what we achieved or even surpass it. Unlike last season, this time we are to play different competitions. We have to go for the league, the Super Cup and CAF Confederation Cup among others. We have too much on our plate and therefore, we must focus on fitness to tackle the season”, Ssenyondo said.
The goal hero, Denis Omedi who scored the two goals recounts the whole experience in Ethiopia but hailed the overall team work exhibited by every member of the team players and officials.
“Playing away from home has never been an easy task but I thank all the team officials and players for the job well done. We shall keep focused as we wait for the rest of the up-coming season as well as the other competitions,” Omedi noted.
Kitara will play Libya 2 in the upcoming 2024/25 Total Energies CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.
