NWSC, Partners launch final phase of Paya water supply project in Tororo

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), in partnership with World Vision Tororo, has officially launched the final phase of the Paya Water Supply Project, aimed at improving access to safe and clean water in several sub-counties of Tororo District.

The project has been handed over to Campground Engineering Ltd for implementation and is expected to be completed within three months.

The handover ceremony was officiated by Tororo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sadiq Bategana and Tororo District Chairperson John Okea, alongside administrative and community leaders from the beneficiary sub-counties of Sere, Paya, Sopsop and Nawire.

Under Phase IV, the contractor will undertake key civil works, install a pump set and solar-powered system, construct perimeter fencing and extend the water distribution network to facilitate the installation of 20 public standpipes.

The phase will also include the planting of 2,000 trees to support environmental conservation and sustainability.

According to project officials, the production borehole has a capacity of 45 cubic metres per hour, offering a reliable and sustainable water source for the target communities.

Tororo Water Manager George Ongwech said that upon completion, the project will be handed over to NWSC for operation and maintenance.

He noted that the initiative is expected to significantly improve access to safe water and address long-standing shortages in the water-stressed sub-counties of Paya, Sere, Nawire and Sopsop.

Ongwech added that NWSC will later undertake additional works, including extending electricity to the pump house and expanding the distribution network to reach more villages.

District leaders have pledged their support to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

NWSC commended World Vision, local leaders, and community members for their continued partnership in improving water service delivery and enhancing livelihoods in Tororo District.

The project is part of broader national efforts to expand access to safe and clean water in rural communities and improve public health outcomes.
