The Member of Parliament for Bukomansimbi South, Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjogi, has criticised some political leaders whom he accused of misleading the public while failing to deliver meaningful development in their constituencies.
Speaking during a community meeting at Kamaanda Village in Kibiinge Sub-county, Bukomansimbi District, Sserunjogi said some Members of Parliament have turned Parliament into a platform for political theatrics instead of focusing on improving the lives of the people they represent.
He argued that although MPs receive significant salaries and benefits funded by taxpayers, some have little to show in terms of service delivery and development in their constituencies.
“Some leaders spend all their time attacking others and making empty political statements, yet they have failed to bring development to the communities they represent. Leadership is about serving people, not seeking personal fame,” Sserunjogi said.
The legislator claimed that Members of Parliament receive monthly salaries of about Shs54 million, medical insurance worth approximately Shs120 million, official vehicles valued at around Shs300 million, and about Shs16 million monthly for fuel.
He said that despite these benefits, some lawmakers have failed to use their positions to improve key sectors such as roads, healthcare, education and other essential services in their constituencies.
Sserunjogi also criticised what he described as the tendency by some politicians to constantly attack President Yoweri Museveni while doing little to address challenges affecting their constituents.
“Instead of spending all their time insulting the President and fellow leaders, they should account to the people who elected them by delivering services and initiating development projects,” he said.
The MP urged voters to assess leaders based on their performance and impact rather than political statements and promises.
“Support leaders who bring tangible development to your communities, not those who only make noise for political attention,” he added.
Sserunjogi made the remarks while meeting residents of Kamaanda Village, who raised several concerns affecting their community, including challenges related to service delivery and local development.
He pledged to continue engaging with residents and advocating for solutions to the issues raised.
The meeting was part of his ongoing constituency engagements aimed at assessing community concerns and strengthening communication between elected leaders and the people they represent.
