The Minister in the Office of the President in charge of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), Jonard Asiimwe, has encouraged learners to embrace co-curricular activities, saying they play a critical role in developing responsible, creative and resilient citizens.
Speaking during games and sports activities at Flobbeto Primary School, Asiimwe said activities outside the classroom help learners develop essential skills such as teamwork, discipline, creativity and leadership.
He said the confidence and determination demonstrated by young learners during competitions highlight the importance of nurturing talent alongside academic learning.
“Co-curricular activities are just as important as classroom learning in shaping responsible, resilient, and patriotic citizens,” Asiimwe said.
The minister applauded learners who participated in various activities, including athletics, football, netball, volleyball, chess, computer assembling, bicycle racing and jamming sessions, saying they demonstrated Uganda’s potential in creativity and innovation.
Asiimwe also challenged learners to continue developing human skills as technology and artificial intelligence (AI) transform the world.
“As artificial intelligence continues to transform our world, remember that no technology can replace the human qualities of teamwork, resilience, discipline, creativity, and character,” he said.
He encouraged learners to pursue their talents with confidence, noting that their abilities will play a role in shaping their future and contributing to the country’s development.
The minister further commended parents, teachers and school management for their continued support, saying their involvement strengthens learning environments and motivates children to strive for excellence.
