The Church of Uganda in Mityana Diocese has held a special thanksgiving and prayer service for the Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, as the Kingdom continues celebrations marking his coronation anniversary.
The service was held at St. Andrew Church of Uganda, Namukozi in Mityana District and was led by the Vicar of Mityana Diocese, Rev. Wilberforce Sseguya, who prayed for the Kabaka’s continued good health, wisdom and strength as he leads the Buganda Kingdom.
During the service, Christians joined religious and cultural leaders in thanking God for the Kabaka’s leadership while praying for lasting peace, unity and development within Buganda and Uganda at large.
Representing the Buganda Kingdom at the event, the Minister for Culture and Heritage, Owek. Anthony Wamala, delivered the Kingdom’s message for this year’s coronation celebrations.
Wamala emphasized the importance of preserving Buganda’s cultural heritage while urging young people to become active custodians of the Kingdom’s values and traditions.
"The future of Buganda lies in the hands of our young people. They must embrace our culture, protect our heritage, and actively participate in initiatives that promote the Kingdom's development," Owek. Wamala said.
He noted that this year’s coronation theme places special emphasis on youth empowerment, encouraging young people to uphold discipline, hard work, patriotism and respect for cultural institutions.
"Our cultural values are a foundation for responsible citizenship. We encourage young people to take pride in their identity and use their talents to contribute to the progress of Buganda and the nation," he added.
Rev. Wilberforce Sseguya called on Christians to continue praying for the Kabaka, stressing that strong leadership is sustained through faith, unity and cooperation among the people.
"We thank God for the Kabaka's leadership and pray that He grants him continued wisdom, good health, and strength to serve his people. We also ask the people of Buganda to remain united and support initiatives that promote peace and development," Rev. Sseguya said.
The prayer service attracted religious leaders, cultural officials, local leaders and members of the public, who reaffirmed their commitment to preserving Buganda’s cultural heritage while promoting unity and community development.
The annual prayers for the Kabaka form part of activities commemorating his coronation anniversary and provide an opportunity for the faithful to seek God’s blessings upon the Kingdom, its leadership and its people.
