The announcement was made by Luuka District Chairperson Peter Kafuko Mulyandawo after a meeting with the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Ateenyi Barugahara, at Workers House.
Mulyandawo said the district requested an induction programme aimed at strengthening elected leaders' understanding of their constitutional and statutory responsibilities.
"One of the key issues we presented was the need to induct all our elected District Councilors and other elected leaders. The objective is to strengthen our understanding and execution of our constitutional and statutory responsibilities, including legislation, oversight, monitoring, representation and effective service delivery," he said.
The district also asked the ministry to provide every elected leader with key reference materials to support their work.
"We also requested that every elected leader be provided with essential reference materials, including copies of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, the Local Governments Act and the Standard Rules of Procedure, to support informed decision-making and effective leadership," Mulyandawo said.
Following the meeting, the Commissioner for Local Councils Development, Swizin Kinga Mugyema, was tasked with coordinating the programme.
Mulyandawo said Mugyema had confirmed his availability to conduct the induction from August 3 to 5.
"I am delighted to inform you that he has confirmed his availability to conduct the induction in Luuka District from 3rd to 5th August. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to our proactive leadership. Luuka District will be the first district in Uganda to benefit from this induction programme, setting the pace for other local governments," he said.
He urged all councillors to participate fully in the training, saying it would strengthen the council's capacity to deliver quality services to residents.
"I therefore urge all Hon. Councilors to prepare to participate fully in this important capacity-building programme. Your attendance, punctuality and active engagement will ensure that we emerge as a stronger, more knowledgeable and more effective Council, capable of delivering quality services to the people who entrusted us with leadership," Mulyandawo said.
He said details on the venue, programme and reporting time would be communicated later.
Mulyandawo thanked the councillors for their continued commitment to serving the people of Luuka District.
