Airtel Africa Foundation, the charitable arm of Airtel Africa plc, has launched the Airtel Africa Foundation Tech Fellowship in Uganda—an initiative aimed at empowering the next generation of digital leaders.
The program will award 20 fellowships to Ugandan undergraduate students from low-income households, enabling them to pursue degree programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
The fellowship is designed to address the financial constraints and skills gaps that hinder many young Africans from participating meaningfully in the fast-growing digital economy.
Through this initiative, beneficiaries will gain access to tuition support, specialized digital training, and mentorship opportunities that position them for careers in technology and innovation.
During the launch event, Airtel Uganda CEO and Managing Director Soumendra Sahu signed a memorandum of understanding with the CEO of Q-Sourcing Servetech, marking a strategic partnership that will support implementation of the program. Speaking at the event, Sahu emphasized Airtel’s commitment to fostering digital inclusion and preparing Uganda’s youth for future opportunities.
“The digital age requires a skilled and inclusive workforce. Through the Airtel Africa Foundation Tech Fellowship, we are creating pathways for talented young people—regardless of their financial background—to participate and thrive in the digital economy,” Sahu said.
Sahu also noted that the initiative aligns with Airtel Africa’s broader mission of accelerating digital transformation across the continent by equipping young innovators with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed.
The launch attracted media, education stakeholders, and industry leaders who welcomed the fellowship as a major step toward bridging the digital divide in Uganda.
Q-Sourcing Servetech, known for its contributions to workforce development, will play a central role in delivering technical training and mentorship to the selected fellows.
With Uganda’s tech sector rapidly expanding, the fellowship is expected to create new opportunities for youth, strengthen the country’s digital talent pipeline, and contribute to national development goals.
