The National Resistance Movement (NRM) will hold its 4th National Conference from August 27 to 28, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds, where the party is expected to elect its presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
In a notice issued by President Museveni, who also serves as the party’s National Chairperson, the conference will be held under the theme “Building a Shared Prosperity: Investing in Uganda’s Future.”
Among the top agenda items is the formal presentation and endorsement of the party’s presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) will submit its recommended candidate to the conference delegates, who will then vote and pass a resolution confirming the nominee.
The elected flag bearer will later address the delegates.
The two-day meeting will also involve elections for key leadership positions within the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
These include the National Chairperson, First and Second National Vice Chairpersons (with the second reserved for a female candidate), and six regional Vice Chairpersons representing East, Central, North, West, Kampala, and Karamoja.
Other highlights of the conference will include the Secretary General’s report, campaign speeches by nominees, and the passing of resolutions related to party leadership and governance.
The meeting will reaffirm NRM’s core ideological pillars of patriotism, pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy.
The National Conference is the highest decision-making body within the NRM and is expected to draw thousands of delegates from across Uganda, including members of parliament, district officials, and senior party leaders.
While the notice did not name the NEC’s preferred presidential candidate, political observers widely expect President Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, to seek re-election for a seventh term.
The conference is likely to offer clarity on that question.
