UPC president Jimmy Akena said the proposal undermines the constitution of political parties and urged Mr Lumu to focus on critical national issues rather than on the administration of Parliament.

Ms Wangadya also criticised the legal framework under which the protesters were charged, describing it as "absurd and redundant."

Despite the objections, Speaker Anita Among ruled in favour of Lumu’s motion, asserting that the sitting in Gulu is a regular parliamentary session and that the bill does not target any individual, including the current LOP, Joel Ssenyonyi.

In addition to his proposal on the LOP, Lumu also suggested amending the Administration of Parliament Act to require the Deputy Speaker of Parliament to be elected from the opposition.

Actually, MP after MP, disappointment was registered on how the Ministry has failed to follow through with its promise stretching up five years of connecting various areas in their constituencies. Others pointed out how in some areas, electricity poles were delivered and even planted over five years ago but no wires have been installed on those poles!

It is a selfish endeavour which we should not buy into. As you may recall for instance, the Hon. Speaker of Parliament was sanctioned for allowing the enaction of the Anti-Homosexuality law under the guise of corruption which they could not prove even after the President wrote to them requesting proof that the speaker owned a house in the UK!
