Ex Vice President Gilbert Bukenya,  has said that his wife, Dr Margaret Mary Musoke didn't add anything to his development for all the forty five years of their marriage, before going ahead to okay their divorce.

On May 16, 2019, Dr.Margaret Mary Musoke, the wife to former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya petitioned the family division of the High Court in Kampala seeking for a dissolution of their 45 year old marriage.

In her petition, Musoke said despite being lawfully married since September 21, 1974 at a function held at St.Augustine Chapel, Makerere University, the former Vice President had on several occasions been involved in infidelity.

Now in his defense, Bukenya has admitted to having other sexual relationships noting that he didn't choose to become celibate and that their separation gave him room to engage in new relationships.

Bukenya also asked court to okay the divorce request by his wife, but not award any of his property to the wife saying that she didn't contribute anything. He says that, he has already offered the wife her share of the property.

"The petitioner (Dr. Margaret), did not contribute anything to the purchase and development of land in Garuga, Katomi as the same property is a property of the respondent's (Bukenya) friend, Bill Bertrand and has had for 40 years through his profession as a medical doctor. The respondent's contribution and ownership is minimal," Bukenya said in response.

He added that his wife has a lot of property in her name having enjoyed a successful medical career and many other property that she acquired from her parents.

Bukenya pointed out some property in Kakiri Town Council where they have a plot of land and building that they rented out to Post Bank.

He says that his wife didn't contribute anything in the purchase and development of this plot that he bought with the late Stella Njuba. Bukenya says that the revenue from this building is now being used to support children of the late Njuba and there fore should not be shared with the wife.
