Pride Bank Earns Global ISO Certification to Strengthen Customer Data Security

Pride Bank has attained the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification, marking a significant milestone in the bank's efforts to strengthen information security, protect customer data and reinforce confidence in its digital banking services.

The certification confirms that the bank's Information Security Management System (ISMS) has undergone an independent assessment by an accredited certification body and complies with globally recognised best practices for identifying, assessing and managing information security risks.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), is the world's leading standard for Information Security Management Systems. It provides organisations with a structured framework for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information while promoting continual improvement.

The achievement comes at a time when the financial services sector is undergoing rapid digital transformation, with mobile banking, internet banking, digital payments and cloud technologies becoming central to service delivery.

While these technologies have expanded financial inclusion and customer convenience, they have also exposed financial institutions to increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity threats.

According to Pride Bank, information security has become more than an operational requirement and is now a strategic imperative that underpins customer confidence and institutional credibility.

The bank said the certification demonstrates that it has established governance structures, policies and controls designed to protect customer information, strengthen operational resilience and proactively manage cybersecurity risks.

For customers, the certification provides assurance that the personal and financial information they entrust to Pride Bank is protected using internationally recognised security standards.

The bank noted that whether customers are opening accounts, using digital banking platforms, making payments or accessing other financial services, protecting their information remains embedded in every aspect of the bank's operations.

Pride Bank further explained that information security extends beyond defending against cyberattacks.

"It encompasses ensuring that information remains confidential, is accessed only by authorised individuals, maintains its accuracy throughout its lifecycle and remains available whenever customers and employees legitimately require it," Pride Bank said.

The bank said these principles form the foundation of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and are essential to delivering secure, reliable and trusted banking services.

The certification also reflects years of investment in governance, technology, people and operational processes.

According to the bank, information security has been integrated into strategic decision-making, day-to-day operations and organisational culture, with every department playing a role in safeguarding information assets.

The certification further strengthens Pride Bank's corporate governance and regulatory compliance by aligning its Information Security Management System with internationally recognised standards for protecting customer information and managing operational risks.

However, the bank emphasised that certification is not a one-off achievement but an ongoing commitment.

Under ISO/IEC 27001:2022, organisations are required to conduct regular risk assessments, internal audits, management reviews, employee awareness programmes and continual evaluations of security controls to ensure they remain prepared for emerging cybersecurity threats and technological developments.

Speaking during the certification ceremony, Mike Kamau, Managing Director of Certi-Trust, congratulated Pride Bank on attaining the certification, describing it as an important milestone while reminding the bank that maintaining the standard requires continuous effort.

"Certification is not the end of the journey. The business environment is constantly changing, technology is evolving, regulations continue to change, and organisations must adapt accordingly," Kamau said.

He added that the real value of the certification lies in fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

"If you continue improving your systems, your organisation will continue to grow, and so will the confidence that your customers have in you. That is what this certification is really about—creating a culture of continuous improvement."

Kamau also revealed that Pride Bank will now be listed in Certi-Trust's global certification directory, enabling organisations around the world to verify its certification status.

He said Certi-Trust will continue supporting the bank through annual surveillance audits to ensure its Information Security Management System remains effective and compliant with international standards.

Pride Bank said achieving the certification was made possible through the collective efforts of its Board of Directors, management, employees and implementation partners, whose collaboration enabled the institution to build an Information Security Management System that meets global standards while supporting its long-term strategic objectives.

The bank said the certification sends a strong message to customers, regulators, shareholders, development partners and business partners that it remains committed to transparency, accountability and operational excellence.

Looking ahead, Pride Bank said it will continue investing in secure technologies, strengthening its digital capabilities and enhancing customer experience without compromising information security.

It also pledged to promote cybersecurity awareness among employees and customers, strengthen partnerships across the financial ecosystem and embrace international best practices that contribute to a safer digital banking environment.

"Pride Bank's ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification represents far more than compliance with an international standard. It is a reflection of the Bank's commitment to protecting what matters most—the trust placed in it by customers, partners, regulators and the communities it serves," the bank said.
