Ugandan-American forward Arthur Kaluma has signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, earning his first NBA deal after impressing during the Summer League and a standout campaign with the franchise's NBA G League affiliate.
The Lakers confirmed the signing on Wednesday, announcing that guard Peter Suder had been waived to create space on the roster.
"The Los Angeles Lakers have signed forward Arthur Kaluma to a two-way contract. In a corresponding move, the team waived two-way guard Peter Suder," the club said in a statement.
The move marks a major milestone for the 24-year-old, who spent the 2025/26 season with the Coachella Valley Lakers, the club's G League affiliate.
Kaluma featured in 40 regular-season and NBA G League Tip-Off Tournament games, averaging 13.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 24.4 minutes per game while shooting 37.8 percent from three-point range.
He scored in double figures in 29 games, including seven performances of at least 20 points, helping the Coachella Valley Lakers finish top of the Western Conference with a 26-10 record before advancing to the Western Conference Finals.
His strong form carried into the California Classic and the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where he cemented his credentials for an NBA roster spot.
Across seven Summer League appearances, Kaluma averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 23 minutes per game, shooting 51.6 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from beyond the arc.
In Las Vegas, he emerged as the Lakers' leading scorer, averaging 18.6 points across five games as the team posted a perfect 4-0 record in pool play before reaching the tournament semifinals.
Before turning professional, Kaluma played four seasons of college basketball, making 134 appearances and 131 starts during spells at Creighton, Kansas State and Texas.
Born on March 1, 2002, Kaluma holds dual Ugandan and American citizenship and has previously represented the Uganda national basketball team in international competitions.
The Lakers also confirmed that Kaluma will wear jersey number 47.
Under the NBA's two-way contract system, Kaluma will split his time between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Coachella Valley Lakers, giving him opportunities to feature in the NBA while continuing his development in the G League.
