Police in Kasese District have arrested a 20-year-old man over allegations of aggravated defilement involving a four-year-old girl.
The suspect, a resident of Buswagha Village, Mughete Parish, i in Kitabu Sub-county was arrested following an incident that allegedly occurred on the evening of July 22, 2026, in the same neighbourhood.
According to the Rwenzori East Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly lured the child away while she was playing with other children by promising to buy her bread.
"It is alleged that the suspect found the victim and three other children playing near their home. He allegedly called the child, promising to buy her bread. The victim followed him, and he reportedly led her behind an old house where the offence is alleged to have been committed," ASP Maate said.
Police say that after the incident, the suspect allegedly instructed the child to return home. Upon reaching home, the girl informed her mother about what had happened.
"The matter was immediately reported to police, and our officers swiftly traced and arrested the suspect. Investigations into the allegations are ongoing," ASP Maate added.
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue gathering evidence to support the investigations. Police say the case will be forwarded for prosecution upon completion of inquiries.
Law enforcement authorities have urged parents and guardians to closely monitor young children and to promptly report suspected cases of child abuse to the nearest police station.
"We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report all forms of violence against children. Timely reporting is critical in ensuring justice for victims and protecting other children from similar abuse," ASP Maate said.
