The modern facility marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s sports development and reflects the government’s growing commitment to supporting athletic excellence.

President Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni, has commissioned the Taryet High Altitude Training Centre in Kapchorwa.

The modern facility marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s sports development and reflects the government’s growing commitment to supporting athletic excellence.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni highlighted the organic approach his government has taken toward national development.

“The NRM does its work organically; we don't rush into things. If you do, you won't succeed,” Museveni said.

“We haven’t accomplished much in sports yet because our initial focus was on basics: peace, immunization, and wealth creation. Now, with peace and health services, Sebei's population has grown from 20,000 in the 1960s to over half a million. This growth is a testament to our efforts in providing a peaceful environment.”

The President underscored the government's indirect contributions to sports development through infrastructure and essential services.

“While we haven’t made direct investments in sports, the peaceful environment has greatly benefitted the industry. As a government, we remain committed to supporting our athletes as they strive for excellence.
