Police have recovered a motorcycle stolen during an aggravated robbery in Wakiso District and impounded another believed to have been used by the suspects as investigations into the attack continue.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the robbery occurred at around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday in Muzinda Cell, Nsangi–Kyengera Town Council.

Owoyesigyire said the victim, a boda boda rider, had picked up a passenger at Stabex Petrol Station in Nansana at about 8:40 p.m. after the passenger requested transport to Nsangi.

After reaching the vicinity of Nsangi Police Station, the passenger allegedly instructed the rider to continue along Katereke–Muzinda Road.

Police say that while travelling through a deserted section near the Mpigi Bypass, the rider encountered two men who had stretched a rope across the road in what investigators believe was a premeditated ambush.

“The passenger immediately grabbed the rider by the neck, enabling the two assailants to pull him off the motorcycle before they fled with it. The passenger then escaped into the nearby bushes,” Owoyesigyire said.

Following the incident, police launched investigations and later recovered the stolen motorcycle, registration number UMA 895GN, abandoned in Kasenge Zone, Kikajo Ward, Kyengera Town Council, just hours after the robbery.

Investigators also impounded a black motorcycle, registration number UDJ 362B, which is believed to have been used by the suspects during the robbery.

Police say forensic and intelligence-led investigations are ongoing to establish the identities of the suspects, trace their whereabouts and recover any additional evidence linked to the crime.

“Investigations are ongoing to identify, trace and arrest the suspects, who will be charged accordingly upon arrest,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police have urged boda boda riders, particularly those operating at night, to remain vigilant when transporting unfamiliar passengers and to report suspicious activity promptly to the nearest police station.

The recovery of the stolen motorcycle comes amid continued police efforts to curb aggravated robberies targeting commercial motorcyclists in the Kampala Metropolitan area.
