A high-powered delegation of religious, cultural and political leaders from the Teso sub-region is expected to travel to Kapeeka on Friday to seek the intervention of Gen Salim Saleh in the ongoing political and legal troubles facing former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, Nile Post has learnt.

The delegation is expected to include Soroti Catholic Bishop Joseph Eciru Oliach, Bishop Kosea Odongo of the Church of Uganda, Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, elders from the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU), and selected Members of Parliament from Teso.

According to multiple sources familiar with the planned engagement, the leaders intend to appeal to Gen Saleh to help facilitate what they describe as “forgiveness” and reconciliation for Among following the political fallout that has surrounded her in recent months.

Four National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislators and one opposition Member of Parliament were invited to join the delegation.

However, by press time, only one NRM legislator had confirmed participation, while the others remained hesitant to publicly acknowledge the planned visit.

The meeting is expected to take place at Gen Saleh’s Kapeeka residence, which has increasingly become a venue for political consultations and mediation involving senior political figures.

The planned engagement follows an earlier intervention by the Emorimor, who visited Among and later announced plans to engage President Museveni over her situation, calling for fairness, due process and humane treatment.

The involvement of both Catholic and Anglican bishops adds a wider religious dimension to the initiative, signalling broader regional efforts by cultural and faith leaders to seek a resolution for one of Teso’s most prominent political figures.

It remains unclear what specific requests will be presented to Gen Saleh or whether the meeting has received approval from the Presidency.

It is also not clear whether Among requested the intervention or whether the initiative was independently launched by leaders from the region.

Efforts to obtain official comment from members of the delegation were ongoing by press time.

If the meeting proceeds, it will mark one of the most significant behind-the-scenes reconciliation efforts mounted on behalf of the former Speaker since her political troubles began.
