Delegates from Kaberamaido, Kalaki, and Soroti Urge Speaker Among to Prioritise Local Govt Welfare
As Speaker Anita Among campaigns for a seat in the NRM Central Executive Committee, delegates from the Teso sub-region emphasize the urgent need to improve welfare and support for grassroots local government leaders.

Delegates from Kaberamaido, Kalaki, and Soroti have called on the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to prioritise the welfare of local government leaders if she retains her parliamentary seat and secures a place in the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).

The appeal came during a consultative engagement led by Workers’ MP Hon. Arinaitwe Rwakajara, who is touring the Teso sub-region to garner support for Speaker Among’s CEC bid.

Rwakajara praised Speaker Among for her strong leadership and commitment to national values, noting enthusiastic endorsements from Bukedi, Lango, Acholi, and now Teso delegates.

“Delegates across these regions have expressed 100% endorsement for the Speaker, trusting her to champion development and represent their interests,” he said.

During Tuesday’s meeting with delegates from Kaberamaido, Kalaki, Soroti City, and Soroti District, the campaign team shared Among’s message focused on development, equity, and integrity.

Delegates expressed appreciation for the Speaker’s leadership but stressed the need to improve welfare and facilitation for grassroots leaders such as sub-county chiefs and LC chairpersons.

“We support Anita’s vision but urge her not to forget those working at the grassroots. Improving our welfare is essential for better service delivery,” a Kalaki delegate stated.

The Teso delegates’ endorsement adds momentum to Among’s regional support while underscoring expectations for tangible improvements in local government.
