The accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. along Lubaanga Road in Mubende Municipality.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck had just left the depot and was fully loaded with soft drinks when the driver reportedly lost control.
"We saw the truck coming at high speed, and the driver shouted, 'Move away!' before jumping out of the truck. It then crashed into the restaurant," eyewitnesses said.
The truck also knocked down a boda boda rider who was riding motorcycle registration number UEN 697W as he attempted to cross the road.
"The truck hit a man who was riding a motorcycle. He was taken to hospital with head injuries," eyewitnesses said.
The crash caused extensive damage to Bamboo Restaurant, destroying part of the building and damaging furniture and other equipment, including tables and chairs. By press time, the value of the damaged property had not yet been established.
Staff at the restaurant described the terrifying moments leading up to the crash.
"I am really shocked because I saw the truck coming towards us as people were shouting. It eventually crashed into the restaurant," said Eric Wamala, an attendant at the restaurant.
Despite the destruction, Wamala expressed gratitude that none of the restaurant staff were injured."I thank God for saving me and my fellow staff members because no one at the restaurant was injured," he said.
By press time, traffic police had arrived at the scene and commenced investigations into the cause of the accident. However, no official statement had yet been issued.
