Police in Nateete are holding two suspects, identified as Mike Sseguya and Godfrey Lukyamuzi, in connection with a house-breaking and theft case involving a television set, laptop, and cash.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, preliminary investigations indicate that the complainant left her residence on Friday morning for work and returned at about 6:00 p.m., only to find that unknown individuals had broken into her house.
The suspects allegedly gained entry by cutting through the bedroom area before stealing a television set, laptop, and money.
The complainant immediately reported the incident at Wamala Police Station, where a case was registered.
Police later sought the assistance of the K9 Unit attached to Nateete Police Station to support investigations.
Officers responded to the scene alongside K9 personnel and introduced a police sniffer dog, Bruce, which successfully picked up a scent believed to have been left by the suspects.
The dog tracked the scent to a perimeter wall, where officers found footprints believed to indicate the escape route used by the suspects.
“Upon being introduced to the scene, the police sniffer dog picked up a scent and followed it to a perimeter wall where footprints were observed, suggesting the route used by the suspects after the commission of the crime,” Owoyesigire said.
Bruce was then introduced on the opposite side of the wall and continued tracking until it led officers to a house occupied by Lukyamuzi and Sseguya, where the dog indicated by sitting at the entrance.
Police conducted a search at the premises and recovered the stolen television set, which was positively identified by the complainant as part of the property taken during the break-in.
“The recovered television set was identified by the complainant as part of the property stolen during the break-in. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue,” Owoyesigire said.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish whether they could be linked to other cases of house breaking and theft within the area.
