A 14-year-old boy, identified as Wasswa Kigozi, has died after being knocked by a truck in a fatal road accident along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in Luweero District on Friday evening.

According to police, the crash occurred at around 7:50 p.m. when a white and red Mercedes Actros truck, registration numbers UAZ 490D and UAZ 665F, was travelling from Luweero towards Gulu. The vehicle, driven by Denis Ochom, reportedly collided with the teenager, who was riding a pedelec bicycle along the roadside.

The Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sam Twiineamazima, confirmed the incident, saying the boy was a resident of Bukomba Village in Luweero Town Council.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the motor vehicle travelling from Luweero towards Gulu knocked down the cyclist, resulting in his immediate death at the scene,” Twiineamazima said.

Residents who rushed to the scene shortly after the crash found the boy already unresponsive.

The body was later transported to Luweero General Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Police also confirmed that the truck was parked at a weighbridge pending inspection as part of ongoing accident inquiry procedures.

Authorities have extended condolences to the bereaved family and urged all road users to exercise caution, particularly during evening hours.

“We continue to urge motorists, cyclists, and other road users to observe road safety measures in order to prevent such unfortunate incidents,” Twiineamazima added.

Residents have meanwhile called for improved road safety awareness and stricter caution along the busy highway, which has recorded several accidents in recent years.
