Police in Rubanda District are searching for a 28-year-old man accused of killing his elder brother during a domestic altercation reportedly triggered by intoxication, as authorities warn against rising alcohol-related violence in households.

Police in Rubanda District are hunting for Theophil Turyamureba, 28, accused of killing his elder brother, Chrispus Bainomugisha, aged 31, following a domestic fight in Hamurwa Sub-county.

The incident occurred in Isingiro Cell, Igomanda Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county, Rubanda District.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said Bainomugisha allegedly returned home late while intoxicated and began harassing family members.

“This prompted his brother, Theophil Turyamureba, to pick a stick and hit the deceased on the head several times, leading to his death,” SP Tumushime said.

Police have since launched a manhunt and appealed to members of the public to provide information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

Tumushime also cautioned young people against alcohol and drug abuse, saying substance misuse continues to fuel domestic violence cases in the region.

Authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
