WAKISO — Jubilee Insurance Uganda, in partnership with My Tree Initiative, has commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with a tree-planting exercise in Wakiso District aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The initiative brought together employees of Jubilee Insurance, representatives of My Tree Initiative, local leaders and community members in a collective effort to support reforestation and environmental conservation.
Speaking during the event, Dorcus Kuhimbisa said environmental stewardship remains a key component of the company's broader sustainability strategy.
“Jubilee Insurance Uganda firmly believes that businesses have a responsibility that goes beyond financial performance. As one of the leading insurance companies in Uganda, our role is not only to protect lives and businesses against risks, but also to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of the communities and the environment in which we operate,” Kuhimbisa said.
She noted that the company's understanding of risk management extends beyond insurance services to include preventive measures that build resilience against climate and environmental challenges.
“As an insurer, we understand risk. And because we understand risk, we also understand the importance of prevention, resilience and sustainability. That is why Jubilee Insurance has continued to invest in environmental conservation initiatives, with tree planting being one of the key pillars of our sustainability agenda,” she added.
The exercise forms part of Jubilee Insurance Uganda's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme, through which the company seeks to create positive social and environmental impact while supporting sustainable development.
Bukenya Ashiraf welcomed the partnership and praised Jubilee Insurance for supporting environmental education and youth engagement.
“We appreciate Jubilee Insurance for supporting us in engaging young people to plant and care for trees. Together, we are integrating environmental education into schools and nurturing future champions of environmental conservation,” he said.
The programme also involved students from Gayaza Adventist Secondary School, where environmental awareness and conservation activities are being promoted through practical learning initiatives.
The school's headteacher, Sensonga Notopher, said environmental protection is critical to the wellbeing and future success of learners.
“As an educational institution, we are passionate about protecting the environment. A healthy planet is essential for the achievement of all other goals, and we welcome partnerships that enable us to create meaningful impact,” he said.
Organisers said the tree-planting campaign is intended to be an ongoing initiative rather than a one-time activity, reflecting a long-term commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement.
The project aligns with the broader objectives of World Environment Day, which is observed annually on June 5 to encourage action on environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.
This year's activities in Uganda have focused on climate action, environmental restoration and encouraging individuals, institutions and businesses to play a more active role in protecting natural resources.
For Jubilee Insurance Uganda, the initiative represents an investment in environmental sustainability and a commitment to creating lasting value for communities through responsible business practices.
