Female journalists, politicians, and technocrats from various sectors across Western Uganda gathered in Mbarara City for an intensive one-day training focused on land and family law.

The training was organised by Legal Room, a legal consultancy firm committed to advancing justice, fairness, and equal rights for all members of society. It aimed to equip participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills to enhance their understanding of legal frameworks. This, in turn, will enable them to report more accurately on justice-related matters and effectively highlight and address family-related challenges within their communities.

Speaking during the session, Phionah Masiika, a legal officer at Legal Room, emphasised that the initiative is designed to empower women by ensuring they gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of their rights in all aspects of life.

She stressed the importance of continuous awareness and education, noting that many women still lack adequate knowledge of their legal entitlements, which limits their ability to advocate for themselves and others.

“Such trainings play a crucial role in bridging this knowledge gap and strengthening women’s capacity to confidently engage in legal and social issues,” Masiika noted.
