Police in Busoga East have identified three victims who lost their lives in a collision involving a taxi and a train along Tirinyi Road.
The tragic incident occurred on December 6, 2025, at around 2:50 pm at Butongole, when a motor vehicle, registration number UBN 282J, was struck by a train.
The deceased include 29-year-old Kyaze Henry, a resident of Kasawo in Mukono; two-year-old Imran Luwangula from Bulangira in Luuka District; and 40-year-old Florence Nakamya from Mutakole in Butebo District.
Authorities said two additional bodies remain unidentified as investigations continue.
Several survivors were rushed to Iganga General Hospital with varying degrees of injuries. They include 30-year-old Zaituna Katoko from Bulangira in Luuka and 5-year-old Hasahya Grace from Kaiti in Butalejja.
Others receiving treatment are Christine Nakirya, 40, from the same area; Richard Osizi, 34, from Budadiri Town Council in Sironko District; and Henry Kissa, 48, of Busiti, also in Sironko.
Also injured are Fred Isooba, 49, from Kigulu in Iganga District; Jackline Namulinda, 25, from Namalemba in Bugweri; and six-year-old Precious Ashaba from Seeta-Bajo in Mukono.
Police also named seven-year-old Noela Mirembe from Kabembe in Mukono; and two-year-old Blessing Aaron, also from Kabembe.
Police said further investigations are underway to establish the cause of the crash.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over safety at railway crossings, with authorities urging motorists to exercise heightened caution when approaching train intersections.
