Soldier Killed in Bombo Head-On Collision Involving Minister’s Escort Vehicle
Two Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldiers were killed and others injured after a lorry collided head-on with an escort pickup assigned to Minister Huda Oleru on Sunday evening in Kalule, Bombo, an accident witnessed by Justice Minister Norbert Mao, who says his convoy stopped to assist the victims.

Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldier has died following a head-on collision between a lorry and an escort pickup attached to the Minister of State for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Huda Oleru, on Sunday evening in Kalule, Bombo, Luwero District.

The crash occurred at around 7:00pm and was witnessed by Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao, who said his vehicles were not involved but his convoy stopped to help.

Mao said there was “a head-on collision between a lorry and a security vehicle, a pickup escorting Hon. Huda Oleru”.

He said one soldier “died instantly” after being trapped in the wreckage. Mao added that another soldier “had died on arrival” at Bombo Military Hospital where the injured were rushed.

He said several escorts were receiving treatment, although the exact number of injured soldiers had not yet been confirmed.

Mao said those at the scene, including his security team, locals and fellow travellers, did everything they could to rescue the victims.

He said he spoke to Defence Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, who “instructed the medical teams from Bombo to respond”, and also contacted Minister Oleru, whose vehicle “was not affected by the accident”.

He extended condolences to the families of the two dead soldiers and wished the injured a quick recovery.
