The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has expressed deep appreciation to the people of Buganda for their unwavering support of the Kingdom’s development programs through consistent financial contributions.
His message of gratitude was delivered by the Minister for Information, Mobilization, and Kingdom Spokesperson, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, who announced that the Kingdom had raised over Shs50 million through recent fundraising drives across the counties of Busiro, Kyaddondo, Kkooki, Bulemeezi, Kyaggwe, and from the Buganda community in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to Minister Kazibwe, this year’s budget, presented by the Kingdom Treasurer, clearly outlines how the collected funds will be used.
Key priorities include renovating the Royal Palace, implementing poverty alleviation initiatives such as the Mmwanyi Terimba coffee project, constructing dams in each county, and other strategic development interventions to strengthen the Kingdom’s socio-economic foundation.
Kazibwe emphasized that these milestones are possible because people willingly contribute, confident in the transparency and accountability of the Kingdom’s financial management.
He also highlighted partnerships that will accelerate development, including collaborations with Airtel and K2 to enhance communication, and with BUCADEF and Stanbic Bank to construct Ssemaduuka structures in every county to promote agricultural value addition and stimulate rural enterprise.
During the same event, the Kingdom’s Minister for Local Government, Joseph Kawuki, cautioned women across Buganda against succumbing to pressure in romantic relationships without fully understanding their partners, warning that doing so could expose them to serious risks.
He urged women to prioritize personal safety and make informed decisions.
Kyaddondo County Chief, Ahmed Matovu Magandaazi, encouraged the people of Buganda to embrace hard work and remain steadfast in following guidance from the Kingdom leadership to foster development and unity.
The fundraising event attracted a diverse gathering of dignitaries, including the Prince of Kkooki, Prince Nelson Lubambula; Kaggo Hajj Ahmed Matovu Magandaazi; Deputy Chief of Kkooki, Gertrude Ssebuggwawo; as well as political leaders and other invited guests.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, community mobilization, and partnerships as it advances its development agenda for the benefit of all people of Buganda.
