The Regional Police Commander for West Nile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Latif Zakke, has called on officers to heighten vigilance and strengthen general policing as the country moves deeper into campaign season and nears the festive period.
He made the remarks during a regional police chiefs’ meeting in Arua City that brought together Regional Heads of Departments, District and Division Police Commanders, OC Police Posts, and OC Sub-County Policing Model Station commanders.
SSP Zakke commended officers for what he termed exceptional professionalism and restraint during campaign activities for the 2026 general elections.
“You have done a commendable job in securing the campaign period so far. The professionalism and discipline you have shown is appreciated by the public,” he said.
He urged officers to increase intelligence gathering, respond swiftly to incidents, and address community concerns without delay.
“General policing must continue. Intelligence must guide your work, and you must respond quickly to people’s problems,” he emphasized.
The RPC also instructed officers to carry out routine inspections of police stations, protect police assets—including canines—and manage them transparently.
Addressing logistical challenges, SSP Zakke acknowledged transport shortages but reassured officers that “Police Headquarters has promised more vehicles and motorcycles. I ask you to remain patient. Support is coming to strengthen your policing capacity.”
He further encouraged officers to follow health guidelines, stay safe, and prepare physically and psychologically for the election period.
The West Nile Region Police PRO, Senior Superintendent of Police Josephine Angucia, also praised officers for their conduct during the recently concluded presidential campaign tours.
“Members of the public have acknowledged your professionalism and restraint, even when violence was anticipated. This is commendable,” she said.
She reminded officers to remain lawful, uphold human rights, and maintain nationalism, patriotism, and non-partisanship in the course of duty.
“Continue to be professional and always share information on time to ensure transparency and accountability,” Angucia stressed.
She also encouraged police chiefs to participate in the end-of-year get-together as a moment of refreshment and preparation for what she described as “the most demanding phase of election policing.”
During the meeting, police unit heads presented updates and concerns from their jurisdictions. Some issues were resolved immediately by the RPC, while others were noted for escalation to Police Headquarters for further management.
