IGP Byakagaba Calls for Stronger Police-Community Collaboration in Rwenzori

The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has concluded a three-day tour of the Rwenzori East and West regions, emphasizing the need for close collaboration between the police and local communities to improve security.

During his visit, the IGP paid a courtesy call on the Tooro Kingdom Palace at Karuzika in Fort Portal City, where he was welcomed by the Prime Minister of the kingdom, Rwomire Calvin Armstrong Akiiki, on behalf of His Majesty, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV.

"The Uganda Police Force values the strong working relationship we have with the Tooro Kingdom, and we are committed to continuing our collaboration to enhance security and community engagement in the region," the IGP said.

The IGP also held meetings with key district security stakeholders, including local government leaders, religious leaders, community opinion leaders, and political representatives. He outlined plans to make the Rwenzori region a model for the sub-county policing framework.

"We are committed to strengthening community policing across the country, and the Rwenzori region will be our flagship project," Byakagaba said. "We will deploy additional officers and resources to ensure the success of this initiative."

He urged district leaders to actively support and cooperate with the police, emphasizing that community ownership of policing programs is essential for effectiveness and sustainability.

"We need your support and cooperation to succeed in our mission to provide security and safety to all citizens," the IGP said. "Let us work together to build a safer and more secure community for all."
