The new Bishop for Busoga Diocese, Rev. Canon. Associate Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale, has called on Ugandans aspiring for leadership positions to embrace humility and selfless service as the foundation of good leadership.
Preaching as the guest speaker during all three Sunday services at St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University, Lubaale emphasized that leadership is a divine calling and should never be used as an avenue for personal gain.
“All that we are is by the grace of the Lord. We are in the political season and you could find 20 candidates competing for one constituency, but only one wins. Those who win should serve humanity with humility and respond to God’s call both spiritually and practically,” he said
Accompanied by his wife and children, Lubaale spoke under the topic “Thankful for God’s grace of salvation: our response to salvation.”
He reminded the congregation that true leadership stems from faithfulness and accountability, urging those entrusted with authority to “pray, remain faithful, and promote justice.”
His message comes as thousands of Ugandans across the country prepare for the January 2026 general elections, in which many are vying for elective positions at various levels of government.
Drawing lessons from the Bible, Lubaale cited the contrasting examples of King Saul and King David to illustrate how faithfulness in small responsibilities can lead to greater blessings.
“When David was faithful, even while tending sheep, God entrusted him with the entire kingdom. Simply serve humanity with humility. Act, pray, be faithful, do justice, and never get tired of doing good. At the right time, you will reap your harvest,” he said.
Lubaale also encouraged those who may lose in the upcoming elections to remain steadfast in faith and continue serving God in other capacities.
“The Bible tells us that Justus lost and did not become an apostle like Matthias, but he didn’t stop serving God. If you don’t make it, don’t lose hope—remain faithful and you will be called to serve in another way,” Lubaale said.
During the same services, Lubaale took time to bless Senior Six candidates who are set to begin their national examinations on Monday, November 10, 2025, urging them to rely on God’s wisdom and strength.
Adding his voice to the message, Ordinand Jonath Tumwebaze from Uganda Christian University encouraged the faithful to sow seeds of peace and love in their communities.
“Be instruments of peace, and where there is hatred, sow love,” Tumwebaze said.
Lubaale was on October, 7, 2025 elected as the 4th Bishop of Busoga Diocese, succeeding Bishop Paul Naimanhye, who is expected to retire next month.
He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on December,14, 2025 at Christ’s Cathedral, Bugembe in Jinja City, where he will formally assume ecclesiastical leadership of the Diocese.
