The Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) has intervened following reports that journalists from Nation Media Group, specifically NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor, have been denied access to Parliament.
In a statement dated October 28, 2025, UPPA President Samuel Ibanda Mugabi confirmed that the association had been informed about the incident and is engaging Parliament’s leadership to address the matter.
“I have been made aware of a concerning development affecting some of our colleagues from Nation Media, specifically NTV and Daily Monitor. It has come to my attention that they have been blocked from accessing Parliament,” Mugabi said.
He noted that while attending a three-day training for UPPA members organised by the French Embassy, he was contacted by the affected journalists and immediately took steps to seek dialogue with Parliament authorities.
“In my capacity as UPPA President, I have since written to the leadership of Parliament to request an opportunity to engage with them on this matter,” he added.
Mugabi emphasised that the association believes in open communication and hopes that the issue can be resolved amicably and swiftly.
“We believe that open communication is key to resolving any standoff, and we are hopeful that we can resolve this issue amicably and in the shortest possible time,” he stated.
The UPPA has pledged to keep members updated on developments as discussions progress.
The reason for the reported denial of access to the Nation Media journalists remains unclear at this point.
