The temporary officers will assist in maintaining law and order during the highly charged electoral period.
According to the official announcement, each recruit will serve on a three-month contract, earning Shs469,000 per month, and will be deployed in their home districts to support the regular police force in policing electoral activities.
The application deadline is November 1, 2025.
Successful applicants will undergo a one-month basic security training before deployment. Candidates are required to be Ugandan citizens aged 18 and above, possess a national ID, and have at least a Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) result slip. Women are encouraged to apply.
Every election season, police recruits thousands of such constables to reinforce security operations across the country.
While the majority are discharged after the elections, a section of outstanding performers are often absorbed into the force as regular officers, creating a pathway for community members seeking careers in law enforcement.
“The constables will work within their areas of residence and will be vital in ensuring peaceful and credible elections,” a police source noted, adding that the recruitment will help strengthen community-based policing during the election period.
Applicants are required to submit handwritten applications addressed to the Inspector General of Police, accompanied by photocopies of academic documents, national identity cards, a recent passport-size photograph, and recommendation letters from their LCI, LCIII, and GISO officials.
Those found forging documents or impersonating others will face arrest and prosecution.
The special constable program has become a cornerstone of Uganda’s electoral security strategy, with previous deployments playing key roles in crowd control, safeguarding polling materials, and supporting local law enforcement in hotspots during past elections.
