Kagadi | Local leaders in Kagadi Town Council have launched a vigorous campaign to promote proper waste disposal and fight preventable diseases, urging residents to adopt a new mindset towards sanitation.
The initiative, undertaken in partnership with religious leaders and the District Health Department, aims to curb the growing problem of poor garbage management across markets, taxi parks, bus parks, and streets.
Kagadi District Health Inspector Peter Situma said the campaign focuses on cleaning up solid waste and plastics that have increasingly littered public spaces.
“We are working with all stakeholders to restore cleanliness and eliminate unhealthy waste disposal habits that threaten public health,” he said.
Alice Kabasana, the Assistant Head of Laity at St Luke’s Archdeaconry under Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, said the campaign is also part of preparations to mark St Luke’s Day on Sunday.
She called on residents to take responsibility for their environment and make cleanliness a daily habit.
Kagadi Town Clerk John Isingoma emphasized the need for behavioral change, saying sustainable waste management begins with individual commitment.
“We need a mindset shift in how we handle garbage,” he said. “Proper sanitation is not just a government duty but a shared responsibility to prevent disease.”
