The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello, held a strategic meeting with Kedir Awol Omar, Head of Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi, to discuss areas of mutual cooperation and strengthen Uganda’s engagement with the ICRC.

The meeting focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and supporting humanitarian operations across the Great Lakes region.

Oryem commended the ICRC’s longstanding work in Uganda and the region, noting its vital role in providing humanitarian assistance and protecting vulnerable communities.

“Uganda recognises and deeply appreciates the tireless work that the ICRC continues to do in alleviating human suffering, As government, we remain committed to supporting and facilitating the humanitarian operations of the ICRC in Uganda and across the wider region,” Oryem said.

The Minister stressed that Uganda values its partnership with the ICRC, particularly in areas relating to conflict response, humanitarian protection, and the promotion of international humanitarian law.

Omar expressed appreciation to the Government of Uganda for its ongoing support and reiterated the ICRC’s commitment to working closely with national authorities and communities to address pressing humanitarian challenges.

The talks between the two leaders were aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing coordination, and exploring avenues for further cooperation between Uganda and the ICRC in humanitarian and development matters.
