Farmer petitions land inquiry seeking to repossess his land

A resident of Namavundu village Kasangati sub-county in Wakiso district, Stanley Lwanga, has petitioned the commission of inquiry into land matters seeking to repossess his land.

According Lwanga, his 72 acres of land were grabbed by a powerful family leaving him with only one acre.

Lwanga accuses Peninah Busigye Kalenge commonly known as ‘’Mama Kisanja’’ and Natasha Busigye Kalenge as being behind this scheme.

"Three people that is Natasha Busingye Kalenge, Peninah Busingye Kalenge and Eriya Mubiri grabbled my land claiming it’s theirs. They fenced it off and left me with one acre only," Lwanga said.

Lwanga said he bought the land in three phases from Kezikia Mukiibi from 1999 to 2001.

Being a farmer, Lwanga said he cannot graze his cattle on the remaining piece of land and therefore wants the commission to intervene so that he can have his land back.

However, the Kalenge family claims the land is theirs and that they have over 100 acres in the same area.

On October 31 2018, when the commission led by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire visited the area, it was concerned about the double titling of the land in most of the cases.

‘’We are going to look at each of the titles because this is a very interesting situation where a title is sitting on a title and we have been facing the challenge of double titling," Bamugemereire said.

The commission after receiving the petition promised to invite Lwanga and the Kalenge family to share more about the matter so that they can be helped.
