Nnebalamye Mayanja Road has been cleaned and beautified in preparation for the much-anticipated Coronation event set for tomorrow.
Residents and local leaders have been urged to maintain the road’s cleanliness and preserve the trees planted along it to uphold its dignity and cultural significance in the Buganda Kingdom.
This has been said by the Minister for Environment and Nature in the Kabaka’s government, Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo, while officiating at the launch of a beautification project initiated by leaders in Wakiso District as a gift to commemorate the Kabaka’s coronation anniversary that is taking placeTomorrow.
According to historical accounts, this is the very road the Prince uses to go to Naggalabi to be enthroned as Kabaka, and it is traditionally believed he passes along this road only once in his lifetime.
"As Buganda prepares to celebrate the 32nd coronation anniversary of Kabaka Mutebi tomorrow, we decided to beautify the road to reflect its importance and the respect for the Kabaka." says wakiso district chairperson matia Lwanga Bwanika.
"Because of its historical and tourism value, Wakiso District designed a plan to develop the road to reflect its cultural significance" he added
"As a coronation gift, the road has officially been handed over to the Buganda Kingdom, through the Minister for Information", Ismael Kazibwe, representing the Kabaka.
"Please take care of the road and the existing trees , plant more to maintain its beauty and prestige" Minister for Environment and Community affairs in Buganda Mariam Mayanja Nkalubo argued the residents.
"This road holds great historical and cultural significance and should be preserved with honor" Wakiso district Leaders explained.
This road, known as Nnebelamye Mayanja, starts from Entebbe Road and connects to Kitemu on Masaka Road.
Every year on July 31st, Buganda holds celebrations to mark the Kabaka’s reign, and as part of these preparations, several community activities are carried out by the Kabaka’s subjects to demonstrate his significance.
