Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Shamim Malende has donated Shs10 million to the National Unity Platform (NUP) as the party launched its week-long vetting exercise for parliamentary flag bearers across Kampala.
The donation was made on Monday at the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule and forms part of a broader fundraising campaign to support the party's preparations for the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Speaking at the launch, Malende said her contribution was a demonstration of commitment to the party's growth and its long-term goal of political transformation.
“This contribution is a token of my commitment to the cause and a call to all supporters to invest in the future of our nation,” Malende said.
“Kampala deserves leaders who are dedicated, capable, and truly representative of the people’s voice.”
Malende also encouraged party members and sympathizers to contribute generously to ensure NUP maintains financial independence and grassroots strength ahead of the elections.
NUP launched its national fundraising drive on July 9 with a target of UgShs 9 billion to fund campaigns, logistics, and candidate support structures.
While contributions are reportedly coming in steadily, party officials have not disclosed how much has been raised so far.
The Kampala vetting exercise is expected to set the tone for similar processes across the country, as NUP positions itself to challenge the ruling National Resistance Movement in a high-stakes 2026 election cycle.
